Sled Dog 2 Day Insight Course - a truly one off never forgotten
experience!!!
We have provided a guideline as to the content of the course but please check with Alan and Fiona Stewart for final details before booking direct with them.
DAY
ONE 8.30am-midday
3 hours spent giving you an insight into dog sled training
/ history. There will be lots of hands on with the dogs (30
in total). You will prepare them for a training run and accompany
Alan with 12 dogs in the forest for just under an hour. The
rest of the time will be spent seeing the equipment &
museum. Two go with the Sleddogs at one time & others
(max. 4) will be picked up mid trail. Make sure you have your
cameras handy.
DAY
ONE 4.30-7.00pm approx.
Enjoy seeing how the young dogs train and the special bonding
starts with Alan & his small K9 athlete's who he has known
from birth working with them each & every day. The dogs
you will see will run in some of the very best races in Europe.
For example the Finnish/Russian 500 mile event & the Alpen
Trail an event that crosses over the Austrian, Swiss &
Italian Alps. Alan is the only Sleddog team from the UK to
have competed in the Alpen Trail (01 & 04). It is hoped
that the young dogs will also race at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Meet the experienced lead dogs in an open area close to the
kennel. You will then have a truly magical experience as Alan
takes you out with 10/12 dogs on a night run with only
headlights to show you the way (this is done on large training
ATV) It is hoped you will see the other 4-legged neighbours
the herd of Wild Red Deer who frequently come right to Alan & Fiona's back door! Back at the kennel enjoy a "wee
nip" of Malt Whisky and enjoy the remote wilderness and
snow capped Cairngorm Mountains that tower above.
DAY
TWO 8.30am-11.30am
The morning will focus on buggy/sled training. Firstly Alan
will pull you & rig/sled along using a quad. Having progressed
and you are sure of your ability with the rig/sled you will
be taken to a remote area of the trail and under supervision
in turns being in control of your own small team. - "A
truly memorable experience! "
